Nearing the end of a month when the Cornish Pirates have confirmed both the names of various new players who have signed for next season and others who have put pen to paper on new contracts, they have also at this stage confirmed…
Added to the list of already announced Cornish Pirates players who are leaving at the end of the season, is that of wing Robin Wedlake, who to date has made 120 appearances for the club and has scored an impressive total of 46 tries.
The latest players news from the Cornish Pirates confirms that wing Matty Ward has signed for next season. Aged 23, Matty joins from Gloucester Rugby, having also played for Hartpury and in the past for Newcastle Falcons.
The Cornish Pirates will on Saturday welcome Nottingham to the Mennaye Field for a final fixture in this season’s Championship. Hopefully the weather will hold fine for everyone to enjoy the 4th versus 7th Round 22 encounter, which kicks off at 3pm.
At a stage when confirming the names at present of certain players staying and new faces signing, nearing the end of the season there is also the inevitably that there will be those who are leaving. To the list of those who have already been announced by the Cornish Pirates, the latest figure is that of wing/centre Matt McNab who has signed to play for Doncaster Knights next season.
The Cornish Pirates can confirm that full-back/wing Will Trewin, aged 26, who is in his third year with the Cornish Pirates and has to date made 65 appearances and scored 20 tries, is leaving the club at the end of this season to join reformed Worcester Warriors.
Good news from the Cornish Pirates confirms that prop Alfie Petch has signed a contract for next season. A former England 20s international, now aged 25, Alfie made 23 appearances for the Cornish Pirates when dual registered with Exeter Chiefs in 2021-22, and has since featured for Northampton Saints, Biarritz, and Gloucester from where he earlier this season came on loan and featured in a further three matches for the club.
A new face at the Cornish Pirates for next season will be 26-year-old backrower Rory Suttor. Born and raised in Avalon, Australia, Rory is a former Australian schoolboy and under 20s international who, though a specialist flanker, has ability to cover all back and second-row positions.
We are delighted to confirm that Joe Walsh will remain with the club next season. Joe, who was appointed ahead of 2024/25 season, will take the role of lead forwards and defence coach heading into 2025/26 along with Joint Head Coaches Alan Paver and Gavin Cattle.
