Lock Will Britton to Hang Up His Boots
The Cornish Pirates can confirm that lock forward Will Britton will be leaving the club at the end of the season, having decided to retire from playing.
Now aged 27, Will signed for the Cornish Pirates ahead of the 2022/23 season, during which he made 25 appearances as an all but ever-present squad member. Since then, although injury at certain times have proved frustrating, as they have throughout his career, he has to date still managed to overall take his tally to 39 for the club.
A former England Students player who attended Bath University and was a member of the Senior Academy at Bath, Will has also played for clubs including Gloucester, from where his path led to the Pirates. He had to undergo a knee operation at the start of this season, after which his aim was to play as many more games as possible in this campaign, before in his own words “That would be that.”
Sorry to see Will leave, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Alan Paver has commented:
“Massive for us during his time in Cornwall, in that second-row engine room Will’s input has been critical.
“He has run the line-out and, although coming across as quiet off the field, he is a big man who has been aggressive on it – a bit of an enforcer who throughout has let his actions do the speaking for him.”
Alan added:
“Individuals such as Will are difficult to replace, and he will always be remembered for the time he spent here.”
