Taunton Replace the Pirates for Rugby Fixture

This coming Saturday, the 21st August, Redruth RFC will be hosting ‘The Terry Pryor Day’, in memory of one of Cornwall’s finest ever prop forwards, who sadly died early last year at the age of 73.

One of the scheduled events was to have been a Redruth versus Cornish Pirates training game. However, because it has been deemed by the RFU that the Pirates are under the elite Covid protocols and cannot play anyone below the Championship who are not under the same protocols, the meeting of the teams cannot take place. Although this is naturally a shame and disappointing for both clubs, the Reds have been pleased to confirm that Taunton have accepted an invitation to visit the Recreation Ground for a still 3pm kick-off. The Titans will in September start their first season in National League One rugby, whilst Redruth open their National League Two South campaign at home to Leicester Lions on Saturday 4th September (ko 3pm).

As for this Saturday’s ‘The Terry Pryor Day’, it will inevitably be a very special occasion, remembering that Terry made an enormous contribution not only to Redruth but also to Cornish rugby in general, spanning over 50 years as player and coach. Terry also taught at Redruth School for over 45 years, so a full day of events are planned.

(Note:  The Cornish Pirates pre-season friendly versus the Royal Navy, scheduled for Friday 3rd September (ko 7.30pm), will still go ahead because of accepted Covid protocols followed by the Navy side)
