Prop Sam Will Be Welcome Aboard

Providing an added physical presence in the Cornish Pirates front-row next season will be Cheshire-born prop Sam Rodman, aged 26, who has signed a two-year contract.

Educated at Wilmslow High School and then Leeds Beckett University, during his time at ‘Uni’ he was a member of the side that in 2015 won the BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) final played at Twickenham. Recording a 31-23 victory against Loughborough, present day ‘Pirate’ Will Cargill skippered the team and of extra interest both Sam and Will also played together in the same England Students side.

As for his club rugby that has been played for Wilmslow, Macclesfield, Ealing Trailfinders and Jersey Reds from where he has signed for the Pirates.

Looking forward to working with Sam, Cornish Pirates’ co-coach Alan Paver has said:

We are really pleased to have signed Sam because he is a big powerful scrummager. With Judgey going (former tight-head prop Christian Judge) there has been a bit of a hole there, so identifying him, it is really good that we’ll have a player of such calibre, quality and ability on board.

Ahead of his arrival, Sam commented:

The Cornish Pirates have been in the Championship for a long time and in a stable position league-wise are now looking to push on and make advances both on and off the field. With this in mind, for me it is an opportunity not to miss, and I am really looking forward to being part of this journey and to help the club achieve its goals. In short, it should be an exciting couple of years, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.
