Cricket action on Friday didn’t focus wholly on the exciting England versus Australia test match at Old Trafford, because invited to play Paul cricket team at Hutchens Park on Friday evening, a Cornish Pirates selection performed admirably in the T-20 encounter.
Batting first, the Cornish Pirates scored 154 for 9 in their 20 overs, with skipper John Stevens, who has played local cricket for Rosudgeon, impressing in making 23 runs. However, it was former Penzance cricketer Kyle Moyle who top scored with a fine 62, whilst for the home team Pirates Amateurs’ player Daniel-Rhys Evans recorded the best bowling figures of 2 for 18.
Posting a score of 154 was seen as a challenge, but it was comfortably met by an able Paul side who were quick to respond with their 155 for 3 wickets reply, to conclude what had proved an entertaining contest.
