We are delighted to confirm Man Down as an Official Charity Partner, after their recent visit to The Mennaye.
When the Cornish Pirates played Doncaster Knights at the Mennaye Field on Sunday, besides ‘Movember’ moustaches being shaved off by Barbiere Truro’s Gareth Fryer, to help heighten awareness of ‘Man Down Cornwall’ he also commendably gave free haircuts for men both before and after the game.
‘Man Down Cornwall’ is a Cornwall based non-profit Community Interest Company that provides informal peer-support talking groups all over Cornwall for men with mental health concerns.
Their aim is that ‘we’ together end the stigma and reduce the number of male suicides in Cornwall.
‘Man Down’ set up a gazebo in the clubhouse corner of the Mennaye Field ground where supporters could find out more information, whilst founder Ross Jackson-Hicks addressed the crowd via the tannoy system at halftime.
Ross, who himself has struggled with mental ill health and addiction, created the ‘Man Down’ group out of frustration at being told to ‘man up’ and as a way of giving men an emotional outlet with their peers. ‘Man Down Cornwall’ organise walks, talks, activities, evening events and breakfast meet ups, as well as hosting events and challenges that raise awareness of the group and bring men together to help each other work through their issues and concerns.
“We are just super excited and happy to be forming this partnership with the Cornish pirates and myself and the team are really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for us all,” he said.
