Cornish Pirates – Bradfords Community Cup

West Cornwall Children to Participate in a Festival of Rugby

The Cornish Pirates are pleased to announce their inaugural Bradfords Community Cup competition, which will get underway at the Mennaye Field, Penzance, on Wednesday 30th March.

Sponsored by club sponsor Bradfords Building Supplies, this exciting event will bring together some 200 children – boys & girls from years 4/5/6 – from Primary schools around West Cornwall to participate in a Festival of Rugby, with each team coached by its very own Cornish Pirates player on the day.

Following the rugby played on the 30th March, two teams will be selected to show off their skills in a Finals Day on Saturday 23rd April, when the Cornish Pirates are also at home to Doncaster Knights in the Championship Cup competition.

Paul Malloy, Head of Marketing at Bradfords Building Supplies said:

“Supporting the local communities where we operate is a core focus for us, as it has been for the past 252 years, so the opportunity to partner with the Cornish Pirates to support this grassroots rugby initiative is a great fit. As a company that believes strongly in growing our own talent, there’s a lot of synergy between the aims of the Cornish Pirates – Bradfords Community Cup which is there to encourage the rugby stars of the future, and our own efforts to encourage our next generation of team members.”

Rebecca Thomas, CEO, Cornish Pirates, added:

“We’re delighted to work with Bradfords to launch this exciting new grassroots rugby initiative. The Cornish Pirates – Bradfords Community Cup will give school children from around the county the opportunity to learn first-hand from the Cornish Pirates players and coaches, while experiencing the excitement of running out on the Mennaye Field.

“I’d like to express our gratitude to Bradfords for their valued support. We look forward to welcoming all the participants and their families to Penzance later this month.”
