It was announced ahead of the 2023/24 season that Royal Marine Commando Rhys had signed a one-year contract with the Cornish Pirates.
Rhys was educated at Friars School in Bangor, Gwynedd, which is the second oldest extant school in Wales. He first played rugby at under 14s level with Bangor RFC, and later for Bethesda RFC and then Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC), which is the regional representative team for the North Wales Rugby Development Region. He also, from January to May 2023, was a playing member at Leeds Tykes.
A recent playing highlight for Rhys was proudly representing the Royal Navy side that defeated the Army at Twickenham in 2023. In the process, the Inter-Services title was won, with what was a first win over the Army since 2010. Other playing highlights include playing for RGC back in 2017 when the team produced the greatest achievement in North Wales rugby history in beating Pontypridd 15-11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, plus, in the same year, he played for RGC at their Eirias Park ground against Wales (lost 88-19).
As for hobbies and interests, Rhys enjoys going to the gym and socialising with a pint of Madri!
