After Antrim-born Bruce joined the Cornish Pirates on a one-year contract in October 2023, in what was his first season for the club he impressed in making 18 appearances and accumulating 114 points.
Having first played rugby aged eight for the Randalstown club in Northern Ireland, Bruce was later educated at the Ballymena Academy. He played for Ireland at under 18/19 levels, including captaining the teams, and joined the Ulster Rugby Academy in 2018. Making several appearances for Ulster ‘A’, including in the Celtic Cup, he also made one appearance for Ulster against Leinster in the Pro14. As for his club rugby in Ireland, he played for Ballymena and then Banbridge RFC.
Ahead of the 2021-22 season, Bruce joined Scottish ‘Super 6’ team Heriots, from where he was offered a partnership deal with United Rugby Championship side Edinburgh Rugby. Also, prior to joining the Cornish Pirates, he was on a short-term deal at Ealing Trailfinders, where he provided cover there at fly-half.
Bruce enjoys rugby coaching and is a lover of most sports. In his early teenage years, he was a keen athlete who competed mainly in 200m, 400m and relays, and he nowadays he enjoys playing golf.
The support of his mum Leesa and his grandfather Maurice Conn, who in the past played rugby for Ulster clubs and for Waikato in New Zealand, is something Bruce has always appreciated, whilst away from rugby he has a keen eye to find new coffee spots!
