After a near three-week break from action, the Cornish Pirates will travel to play the ‘Green & Whites’ of Nottingham on Friday evening.
Kick-off is at 7.45pm at the home team’s Lady Bay ground, where on their last visit in April the Pirates emerged 33-22 winners.
Changes for the Cornish Pirates from the side that won so well at home against Ealing Trailfinders last time out are minimal. In the starting XV, Jack Andrew slots in at loose-head prop in place of the unavailable James Kenny, whilst Hayden King takes Andrew’s seat on the bench.
Speaking ahead of Friday evening’s fixture, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Alan Paver said:
“After managing a two-week break when the guys were given a deserved week off, and then responded well to a week of intense training, everyone is really looking forward to getting on the road to play a game of rugby again.
“We knew this week would be a short turnaround – Monday and Tuesday a top up, day off Wednesday and then travel Thursday ahead of Friday evening’s game, and although requiring a little planning it is something we are quite used to.
“Nottingham lost heavily away to Ealing Trailfinders last time out, so we need to be aware of a backlash, noting also that they have already won their two games played at home this season. There is no doubt they will provide stern opposition and knowing many games in the Championship are decided on how each approaches a game emotionally, it is something they will be keen to get right, as we did when beating the Trailfinders just a week after deservedly losing at Hartpury.”
Alan added:
“This weekend’s fixture will also give us a good idea of where we are as a group. Yes, Nottingham’s is a good side, however if we can we put a performance together and get an away win then it will enable us to maintain momentum and kick on – but we have to go there with the right attitude.”
