The next game for the Cornish Pirates is at home against Richmond this Sunday (ko 2.30pm).
Arriving at Round 20 in the Greene King IPA Championship, the match will be a 5th versus 8th clash, with the Pirates aiming to make it five league wins on the trot.
When the teams last met, at the Richmond Athletic Ground last November, the Pirates won 28-15, so this weekend also gives them an opportunity to complete ‘the double’ – which, it will be remembered, was a feat achieved by Richmond against the Pirates last season.
Sunday’s fixture will proudly mark the 100 games milestone for homegrown full-back Kyle Moyle, whilst wing Alex O’Meara is set to make his 50th appearance for the club. Both are in a backline that remains unchanged from the team that faced Ealing Trailfinders last weekend. As for the forwards, there are starting roles for prop Billy Keast and hooker Dan Frost, and on the bench on-loan Bristol scrum-half Reiss Cullen is named.
Speaking ahead of the game, Cornish Pirates’ player/coach Alan Paver has said:
Richmond form a rugged side who get stuck in and have played some good rugby. That said, however, we are at home and have also played some good rugby ourselves.
As always, we’re expecting a tough encounter and it will likely come down to small margins, but it is an encounter we are looking forward to and the guys are in the right place.
Alan added:
If we are fortunate to get on the right side of the score then it would be a big move forward for us.
