Young Cornish prop Woodmansey signs on

The Cornish Pirates are delighted to announce young prop forward Ben Woodmansey has signed for the club. The Cornishman, aged just 18 years old, made his Champ Rugby debut last season amassing five appearances in the front row.

It has been a meteoric and impressive rise from Woodmansey, making the huge step up to professional rugby in such an unforgiving position. The youngster trained with the squad last pre-season coming from Helston RFC, impressing with his work rate and attitude and gained senior rugby experience with Penryn and St Austell, before getting his first shot with the Pirates against the Navy in a friendly, prior to his league debut.

Ben spoke of his delight to be re-joining the club.

I’ve loved my time at the club so far and it was incredible to get the opportunity to play in the Champ last season. It’s a great group and the lads have been brilliant with me, but learning from Paves has personally been massive. I feel like I’ve got plenty to offer in the coming years.

Joint Head Coach Alan Paver was full of praise for the young front rower.

For such a young man in the front row to have been able to play in the Champ is such an enormous achievement. It’s great that he’s local and a Cornish man – he has huge potential to grow we make sure we’ll nurture his development and make sure he gets the right exposure. We’re excited about him. He’s certainly one for the future.
