Most people in Cornwall, including rugby supporters, will be aware that the Tour of Britain Cycle Race starts from Penzance on Sunday 5th September – the ‘Grand Depart’ is scheduled to take place on the promenade at 11am.
Reference organisation of the event, it is inevitable that there will be levels of disruption locally, including for the those associated with certain Pirates rugby teams.
The Cornish Pirates have a prestigious friendly fixture at home versus the Royal Navy on the Friday (3rd Sept – ko 7.30pm), with it important for supporters to note that the Penzance promenade will be closed to vehicles just from the Jubilee Pool end to the roundabout at the bottom of Alexandra Road. The recommendation for supporters is simply to be aware and thus suitably organise their travel arrangements.
On the Saturday, for their opening league game of the season the Pirates Amateurs will welcome Plymstock Albion Oaks to the Mennaye Field (ko 3pm). Once again, supporters should note that the promenade will be closed to vehicles as per mentioned above.
For general awareness we understand there will be a parking suspension in Alexandra Road on Saturday night from 7pm, when no parking will be permitted from the Trewithen Road junction down to the roundabout on the promenade. As for Sunday, Alexandra Road itself will be closed from 0800 to 12 noon.
Finally, the usual town car parks are expected to remain open but for the Wherrytown car park and the St. Anthony Car Park opposite the Jubilee Pool.
