Pirates to Play Bedford Blues in Cup Quarter-Final
It has been officially confirmed that the Cornish Pirates will play Bedford Blues in the quarter-final of the Championship Cup.
In the 1st Leg the Pirates will welcome the Blues to the Mennaye Field this Saturday 30th April (ko 2.30pm), whilst the 2nd Leg is scheduled to be played away at Bedford on Saturday 7th May (ko 3pm).
Despite losing to Doncaster Knights by the aggregate score of 56-46 from the two Tie 3 matches played in Round 1, the Cornish Pirates qualify for the quarter-finals stage as one of two clubs in the competition with a best losing playing record. As for Bedford Blues they were Tie 2 winners in Round 1 through securing a 90-33 aggregate score against Nottingham.
The Quarter-finals draw is as follows:
1st Leg – w/e 30th April
QF 1 Hartpury v Jersey Reds, QF 2 Cornish Pirates v Bedford Blues, QF 3 Doncaster Knights v Coventry, QF 4 Ampthill & District v Ealing Trailfinders.
2nd Leg – w/e 7th May
QF 1 Jersey Reds v Hartpury, QF 2 Bedford Blues v Cornish Pirates, QF 3 Coventry v Doncaster Knights, QF 4 Ealing Trailfinders v Ampthill & District
To assist with planning, the RFU have also drawn the Semi-finals, which are as follows:
SF 1 – QF 4 winner v QF 2 winner, SF 2 – QF1 winner v QF 3 winner
Following the first stage of the Cup, Richmond, London Scottish and Nottingham will now be eligible for Championship Plate. According to Championship Cup regulation 4.9 – clubs must vote to enter the Plate. If all three teams confirm participation, matches will be played from the 7th May.
