A week before the Cornish Pirates play their opening game in this season’s 2020/21 Greene King IPA Championship – at home versus Saracens on Saturday 6th March (ko 3pm) – a warm-up friendly fixture has been confirmed against Jersey Reds.
The warm-up encounter, again to be played at the Mennaye Field, will kick-off at 2pm on Saturday 27th February.
Pleased that such a fixture has been confirmed, Cornish Pirates’ joint Head Coach Gavin Cattle commented:
With it difficult in the current circumstances to get a warm-up match, having worked closely with Harvey (Harvey Biljon, Jersey Reds’ Director of Rugby) during the past couple of weeks we are grateful to them that we have managed to slot in this game at the last minute.
It is pleasing, as both teams are desperate to get some meaningful action under their belts. There is only so much you can do against each other so we’re just looking forward to getting that competitive fixture and to get rugby up and running.
As everyone will be aware, because of present Covid restrictions it will not be possible to accommodate supporters at the game. However, a £10 pay per view arrangement will be available via 247.tv. Please simply click the link below and follow the instructions to purchase the game.
Those who wish to take advantage of this viewing opportunity will note the advice to create their account before the day of the match.
The Pirates were sorry to hear that a former player and official, Ken Thomas, passed away at Ponsandane Care Home on Friday 22nd October, aged 92 years.
With reference to this Saturday’s league encounter against Coventry – kick-off at 2.30pm remember - the following information is hopefully of use for supporters.
Many will be aware that the name Blackbeard is associated with a famous Pirate of centuries past, so in consideration of the same it is considered wholly appropriate that a modern-day Pirate, Cornish Pirates’ winger Alex O’Meara, has set up his own coffee business – called ‘BlackBeard Coffee’.
