Hooker Morgan Nelson Signs for Pirates

The Cornish Pirates can confirm the signing of hooker Morgan Nelson. Following the retirement of Tom Channon, the new arrival will appear on the bench for the match away to Bedford Blues on Saturday, plus he has put pen to paper on a one-year contract for the 2022/23 season.

Born in Ross-On-Wye, 22-year-old Morgan has played age grade rugby for Wales, including the under 18s team, and has recently been part of the BUCS Super Rugby team at Cardiff Met. He has also in the past played for both Worcester and Gloucester Academy, as well as the Hartpury College AASE squad.

Cornish Pirates coach Louie Tonkin, who is looking forward to welcoming and working with Morgan, has commented:

“Morgan is someone we have been tracking for a while at Cardiff Met. We know the coaches at the University very well and they have spoken very highly about him as not just a player but also a leader.

“A very physical young man, he has had some really good exposure both in BUCS Super Rugby and for Cardiff Met in the Welsh Championship, which is a really hard-nosed league.”

Louie added:

“When Morgan came and trained with us for a week, we liked his attributes and his characteristics both as a player and person and see him as a fine addition to the squad.”
