In a week when Cornish Pirates’ hooker Morgan Nelson reaches his 25th birthday, it is also confirmed the Herefordshire born former Wales under 18s player has signed a contract for Gloucester Rugby.

After first registering for the Pirates nearing the end of the 2021/22 campaign, when he made two appearances for the club, in the period since Morgan took his games tally not only to 49 but in the process also took his try-count to an impressive 29.

Commenting on Morgan’s departure, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Alan Paver said:

“We are pleased as punch that Morgan has got this opportunity. I know people will say it is probably not the right time for the Cornish Pirates, but it is the right time for him. He has been fully committed to the club whilst in Cornwall and establishing himself as Championship player has now been earmarked to push on.

Alan added:

“During Morgan’s relatively short time in Cornwall, we have seen that his set piece is a strength, as has been his contribution around the field with ball in hand. He is also an extremely good defender who just knows the game really well, therefore overall it is the right time to test himself at the next level.”

Morgan has also said:

“I am naturally pleased to have been offered a contract by Gloucester for the remainder of this season, which will give me an opportunity to prove myself there. Also, I have been extremely grateful to the Cornish Pirates for the opportunity that they gave me, and I have been proud to represent such a big club.

“Everyone has been so supportive, the coaches have been awesome, and the supporters special, including my sponsor ARW Scaffold Contracting Limited.”
