The latest player news from the Cornish Pirates confirms that centre/fly-half Joe Elderkin has signed a one-year contract with the club.
Joe, aged 22, made one appearance for the Pirates in a pre-season friendly played in against Exeter Chiefs in 2017, whilst in May this year he was used as a replacement in the fixture at home to Hartpury.
A former Truro School and Truro RFC youth team player, who has studied and played at Exeter University, Joe has represented Exeter Chiefs under 18s/Academy, has featured for the Chiefs in the Singha 7s, and for the Exeter Braves team. He has also played for Redruth, Plymouth Albion, and for Cornwall.
Speaking reference this latest signing, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Gavin Cattle said:
We have been aware of the promise that Joe has shown. An intelligent and well-balanced personality he trained with us in the past and has been on trial voluntarily during the Covid period.
His attitude and commitment have been excellent, and now earning a contract is a just reward for his efforts. Also, of course, it gives him an opportunity to learn from accomplished players and compete for a place in the team.
As for Joe, he has commented:
Growing up in Cornwall and loving watching the Cornish Pirates play from a young age, it is an honour to be able to get the chance to be a squad member.
I am very excited to get started and get stuck into pre-season with what is a great group of guys.
We are delighted to confirm Man Down as an Official Charity Partner, after their recent visit to The Mennaye.
When the Cornish Pirates recently played Doncaster Knights at the Mennaye Field, a match day collection in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care raised the very worthy sum of £560-56.
Having departed the Cornish Pirates at the end of last season to join Jersey Reds, good news confirms that wing Robin Wedlake has signed a contract to rejoin the club for the remainder of this present season.
