Heaney to return to MLR in new year

The Cornish Pirate can today confirm that Alessandro Heaney will depart the club in the New Year, to join up with MLR outfit Anthem Rugby Charlotte.

Irish Prop Heaney, who joined in the summer from from MLR side RFC Los Angeles, will return to the States to pursue his ambition of making the USA test side for the 2027 World Cup. He has made 13 appearances to date for the Cornish Pirates and will remain at the club until mid February.

Joint Head Coach Alan Paver said “Ale’s introduction to the squad was of huge value to use. Again we utilised that relationship that we’ve got over in Ireland. Ale has ambitions to make a push with getting into the international side in America, so for us we wish him all the best when the time comes but we can look forward to having him for a little while longer yet. He’s one we’ve got an eye on for the future to hopefully return after his spell away.”
