Well, perhaps of no surprise ahead of Hall for Cornwall’s headline Christmas Show, the Cornish Pirates have teamed up with the cast of Treasure Island to promote what promises to be an event not to be missed.

The partnership was announced at Hall for Cornwall on Tuesday and saw three Cornish Pirates players switch rugby boots for stage dress as they joined the cast during rehearsal.

Hall for Cornwall will also be the match day sponsor for the forthcoming Cornish Pirates versus Ampthill cup game to be played at the Mennaye Field, Penzance, on Sunday 20th November (ko 2.30pm), which will also be attended by cast members of ‘Treasure Island’.

No doubt, they will be keen to meet up with similarly clad supporters of the Cornish Pirates, including the club’s very own mascot – Captain Benbow!

In what promises to be a classic Hall for Cornwall Christmas adventure, starring Edward Rowe (Kernow King, Fisherman’s Friends The Musical, Bait) as Long John Silver, the Cornwall Playhouse Production of ‘Treasure Island’, delivered by DHL, will hoist the mainbrace with a festive treat packed to the gunnels with family fun. There will be songs that everyone will know, enough silly jokes to make the sternest Pirate giggle, plus a host of special effects and magic to take your breath away!

Like all the best stories, the tale begins in Cornwall, where Jim, his Mum and their pet Chough have fallen on hard times. All looks lost until a tattered treasure map lands in Jim’s lap and their destiny is decided… if only they can find a boat, a crew, and safe passage to a mysterious faraway island.

Will they find the treasure? Can they evade steely Long John Silver, fearsome Lady Killigrew and mischievous Brian the monkey? Join Jim Lad, his flamboyantly dressed Mum and the motley crew of ne’er do wells and wrong-uns as they set sail for a silly island full of treasure, treachery and adventure.

Speaking about his cameo performance, Pirates prop Hayden King said:

“It was good fun. Good to do something a bit different and to take your mind off the rugby for a bit. It’s also really nice to be able to support Hall for Cornwall and all the great work they do in the community. We look forward to seeing Ed and some of the cast down at the Mennaye for what promises to be a great game of rugby on Sunday.”

Speaking on behalf of Hall for Cornwall, Edward Rowe said:

“Scrumming down with the mighty Pirates and the Treasure Island team is great. All of us are about making joy for families in Cornwall. I expect the Cornish Pirates to put a mighty performance in against Ampthill. Me and my cast mates will be cheering on from the side-lines ahead of Hall for Cornwall’s rip-roaring production of Treasure Island. See you on Sunday!”
