Fender joins on loan from Ospreys

The Cornish Pirates can confirm that Ospreys’ lock James Fender will be on loan for the 2022/23 season.

Swansea-born, the 6’ 7” forward, aged 20, is a former Wales under 18s, under 19s, and under 20s player.

Educated at Bishopston Comprehensive School, Gower College and Neath Port Talbot College, where he studied BTEC Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science, James has also played rugby for South Gower RFC and for Swansea RFC in the Welsh Premiership.

Keen to welcome James to the Mennaye Field, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Alan Paver has commented:

“Having James with us on a year’s loan confirms a good relationship with the Ospreys, plus it is one that obviously benefits both clubs and James himself.

“A big unit, he is a very useful line-out operator, and we are already looking forward to what he can bring as part of his development.”
