Following former Head Analyst Chris Price having left the club for a career change at the end of the past season, Technical Performance Analyst Adam Watts will now step up into the role.
Two new appointments are that of Assistant Analyst Edward ‘Ed’ Hounsell and full time Analyst placement Louis Harling, who are both welcomed on board.
Ed, aged 26, who was born in New Zealand and educated at St Patrick’s College, Silverstream, later attended Chichester University where he achieved a BA (Hons) in Physical Education and Coaching.
In New Zealand he played for Rotorua Bay of Plenty under 20s, while at Chichester University he gained 1st XV full colours. He was also an assistant rugby coach at Uni, has been a boarding tutor at Boundary Oak School in Hampshire, and in the past season undertook a work experience analyst role at Coventry Rugby.
As for Hampshire-born Louis, aged 21, he was educated at Ringwood School where he achieved three A’s at A level in Psychology, Biology and PE, is currently on placement while studying for a BSc in Sports Exercise Science at the University of Bath
With very much a sporting background, Louis has played county rugby for Hampshire from under 17 to under 20, whilst he also used to compete in athletics for the county, running the 400 metres and competing in the high jump. He has also enjoyed going out on his mountain bike in the New Forest.
Of general interest, Louis was a volunteer coach at school, worked as a referee, and he also commendably worked in a resourced provision for children with learning difficulties encouraging physical activity and making it more accessible to them.
Both Ed’s and Louis’s appointments are related to a performance analytics partnership signed between the Cornish Pirates and Proview Sports, as had been the case when Adam arrived back in 2020. The beneficial partnership sees Proview Sports add resources and strategy to an already existing high performing department at the Cornish Pirates.
