Cornwall showed its support to ‘didi rugby’ last Saturday, with the version of the game introduced to the county at an event that took place at Boscawen Park, Truro.
Having formed a link with Truro Rugby Club as well as Falmouth RFC, there was fun for all ages from 18 months to 6 years at the launch which took place at Boscawen Park, where didi rugby CEO and former England international Vicky Macqueen, along with Cornish Pirates player Tom Duncan, were keen to attend and support the inaugural event.
Cornwall didi rugby owners Chris Morrison and Ross Denning aim to spread didi rugby far and wide throughout the county. The pair consider participating in didi rugby is a great way to teach children to be active and to also, importantly, have fun – which they certainly did at Truro on Saturday.
Ross Denning commented:
“Having 50 children in attendance made it a great turn out and it was equally great to see them all enjoying themselves. Our goal is to get kids out and be active, and if we can do that through the sport we love, then all the better.”
Chairman of Falmouth Youth Academy, Peter Collett also said:
“Having seen their sessions, we are really excited to have didi rugby coming to Falmouth RFC.
“It’s great to see rugby being used to grow physical development, crossing over from the National Curriculum and PE fundamentals.
“The activities are accessible while also challenging and encouraging growth from the children and of course most importantly really fun! It was also lovely to see parents getting involved and having some great quality time with their children, creating smiles from parents and children alike.
Peter added:
“From a club point of view, it will be great to have children coming through not only with more rugby understanding but with a greater confidence in their own abilities. I know my boy’s really looking forward to going back.”
