Devon-born Dan Powell, aged 40, has been appointed Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at the Cornish Pirates. He will work alongside Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, James Owen.
Educated at Paignton Community College, South Devon College, and St. Marys University College and Roehampton University, Dan’s qualifications include a BSc in Strength & Conditioning Science, an MSc in Biomechanics, plus he is an Accredited Strength & Conditioning Coach with the UK Strength & Conditioning Association.
Having served in the Parachute Regiment from 2001–2005, and gone to ‘Uni’ in 2008, during the period since he has been associated with a broad range of impressive work, including participation with the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS), London Harlequins Rugby League team, the RFUW, Somerset County Cricket, plus being a lecturer. Dan has also worked as a self-employed Strength & Conditioning Coach, however it is back in professional sport and a team environment where he is happiest.
As for hobbies and interests, they have not surprisingly been sports based. Dan has played football throughout his life, and rugby while at school. He also loves either walking in the hills or mountain biking, plus he has recently taken up scuba diving.
