The Cornish Pirates will visit Plymouth Albion on Saturday 31st August to take part in a Training Day with their former cross Tamar rivals.
Albion & The Pirates will meet up again at the Brickfields
This worthy event will be open to supporters, enabling them to see both ambitious teams in action ahead of their respective 2019/20 rugby campaigns. It is not often supporters have the chance to watch top level players train and offering a great insight to preparations for the new season it is clearly an opportunity not to be missed.
Entry to the Brickfields Recreation Ground, open from 12 noon, is £5 only. There will be pop-up bars, stalls and a BBQ to make this a family day out, with the rugby action due to start at 2pm.
Of interest, Ben Gulliver is the new Head Coach at Plymouth Albion, where among his assistants are two other well-known former Pirates in Gareth Steenson and Carl Rimmer.
In action for the Pirates, Ben Gulliver had previously played for Plymouth Albion
Seeing obvious benefit for both squads, Cornish Pirates’ Director of Rugby Chris Stirling has commented:
With the appointment of Ben Gulliver as Head Coach of Plymouth Albion it has provided both clubs with a familiar link.
At a recent visit to our pre-season Ben suggested a training day with a focus on development for both squads, which will fit well with our current pre-season programme and help prepare us for our opening Championship Cup matches.
Look out for further information about this Training Day, to be updated nearer the event.
