The squad, with certain new faces present, will be looking to work hard in preparation to ultimately perform well when matches commence, hopefully in front of a healthy number of permitted supporters.
Speaking with reference to the start of this opening week, Team Manager Matt Evans said:
Firstly, after getting all the boys to Covid test last week at home they were suitably tested again when they arrived for our first day of pre-season.
A certain amount of admin requirements next needed attending to, there was an induction meeting to outline what the structure of the season is going to look like, plus we got into some finer detail reference what we are going to do about screening, which is about wellness and making sure players are fit and ready to train, or to importantly flag up any personal issues that need checking out.
The rest of the day saw us break into certain groups to do some initial testing on present physical ability, as conjured up by James (S&C Coach James Owen) to help get a good scope of where the guys are at, and then we ended up with a little skills and condition games session on the Nurseries field.
From Tuesday we started to get a little more into the nitty gritty stuff, whilst with most of the squad here it has also been an opportune time for the new lads to get to know everyone. Also, as we progress, there will be certain team bonding sessions and physical challenges that I am sure everyone will look forward to!
We are delighted to confirm Man Down as an Official Charity Partner, after their recent visit to The Mennaye.
When the Cornish Pirates recently played Doncaster Knights at the Mennaye Field, a match day collection in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care raised the very worthy sum of £560-56.
Having departed the Cornish Pirates at the end of last season to join Jersey Reds, good news confirms that wing Robin Wedlake has signed a contract to rejoin the club for the remainder of this present season.
