Aussie backrower Ratcliff signs with the Pirates

The Cornish Pirates are delighted to confirm the signing of Australian back row forward Luke Ratcliff. The Welsh born former Sydney University man has been training with the Pirates for the whole of Pre-Season on trial and has put pen to paper to remain at the club for the 25/26 season.

The 26-year-old Number 8/Lock forward who was raised in Australia, is known for his aggressive playing style and formidable defensive qualities. He developed his rugby prowess at Sydney University, which saw him make the 1^st grade in 2020. Plying his trade in the Shute Shield competition, he then proved himself a dominant force.

Ratcliff spoke on how much he has already enjoyed his time at the club.

So stoked to be on board with the Pirates this season. Can’t wait to rip in alongside a great bunch of boys and play some quality footy. Cornwall’s an unreal spot, and I’m ready to make some memories on and off the field.

Joint Head Coach Gavin Cattle called on Ratcliff to push on after impressing during his trial.

He really impressed us coming in off his own back and with his skill level and attitude in the first block. He’s really fit in well with the squad so far and fits the profile of a Pirates player with his approach and how hard he works. We’re excited to see what he can do.
