The Cornish Pirates are delighted to announce that Alex Everett has been appointed as Captain for the 2025-26 Season. Everett takes on the mantle from John Stevens, who continues to work his way back to fitness.
The abrasive back rower joined the club in the summer of 2022 and has since made 69 appearances, scoring 9 tries in that time. Everett’s eye catching, all action displays also earned him a place in the 2023-24 Championship Team of the Season after a highest ever second place finish for the Cornish Pirates.
Joint Head Coach, Gavin Cattle, said it was the obvious choice to make:
We’re really pleased to appoint Alex as Club Captain this season. He has been a standout player for us in the past few seasons. He leads by example with his actions, is calm and has good relationships with the officials, so it was the obvious choice as John Stevens works his way back to full fitness in the new year. There’s a good spine of leadership in the team with the likes of Arwel Robson, Joe Elderkin, Morgan Nelson, Josh King, Dan Hiscocks, so he’ll be well supported in that regard.
Everett spoke of his pride in taking on the role:
It’s a huge honour to be named Club Captain at Pirates. John has left some huge shoes to fill but I think the playing group is in a really good place to use last year as a springboard to challenge at the top end of the table and I’m excited to see where we go. Across the squad we’re all excited to get stuck into the season and get the Mennaye bouncing!
