When the Cornish Pirates played Bedford Blues at the Mennaye Field last Saturday, a collection was held in support of the National Coastwatch Institution – the NCI – at Gwennap Head.
A voluntary organisation that provides a visual watch, the NCI’s fully trained members are the eyes and ears of the coast, and the charity one close to the hearts of Cornish folk who understand our coastline and the dangers that can arise.
Speaking on behalf of the NCI, Kevin Wyre said:
“Having counted all the generous contributions we received on Saturday, the excellent news is that we raised a few pennies short of £575 for NCI Gwennap Head funds. For us to amass well over 10% of our typical annual running costs in just one afternoon is nothing short of remarkable, and it is a major boost to our post-pandemic fundraising.
“Please pass on our thanks to all at Cornish Pirates for allowing our members to fundraise. We were given an incredibly warm welcome from everyone we met, the generosity of the club’s supporters was amazing, and all our watchkeepers left with big springs in their step!”
