Ahead of tonight’s opening pre-season game versus the Royal Navy (ko 7.30pm), the Cornish Pirates can confirm that back rower Caleb Montgomery, aged 26, has joined the club on loan from Worcester Warriors.
Born in Portadown, Northern Ireland, prior to joining Worcester, Caleb had played club rugby for Banbridge in the All-Ireland League, besides being a regular in Ulster’s A team in the 2018/19 season. He also made his senior debut for Ulster as a replacement against Leinster in January 2019.
Arriving at Sixways, home of the Warriors in the summer of 2019, he represented Worcester in the Premiership Rugby Sevens, and then in the Premiership Rugby Cup before last season making his Premiership debut against Wasps.
In welcoming Caleb to the Mennaye Field, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach, Alan Paver, commented:
“Introduced to Caleb a couple of years back, me and Morgs (Chris Morgan) were really impressed with what we saw. He is very robust and a good athlete and continuing our good links with Worcester we very much welcome him here.
“Not surprisingly, he has right away applied himself extremely well and it is great that we have another fine young man here with us who is keen to play rugby.”
