The Cornish Pirates confirmed in July 2022 that London-born Max would be dual registered from Exeter Chiefs for the 2022-23 season, during which he made 19 appearances for the club.

A gifted, all-action hooker who came up through Exeter’s highly successful academy programme, Max played his early rugby at Teignmouth, as well as combining his studies at Ivybridge Community College, where he gained a Level 3 Sports diploma.

Having spent time playing in the National League with both Taunton Titans and Plymouth Albion, whilst at the same time training with the Chiefs, Max proved himself fiercely committed on the field. Indeed, his energetic approach is one that was clearly liked by the Chiefs coaches, who have used him in both the Premiership Rugby Shield and Premiership Rugby Cup, the latter of which he made his first team debut against Bristol Bears in October 2019.
