Matt, who arrived at the Cornish Pirates in July on loan from Ealing Trailfinders, first started rugby at the age of five for Hemel Hempstead (Camelot), before moving to Old Albanians where he initially played from under 13s to under 18s level.
Educated at John F. Kennedy Catholic School, Hemel Hempstead, he is a former Saracens Academy under 18s and Trailfinders Academy member who has also played senior rugby for Old Albanians, Hertfordshire, and for Brunel University where he was admirably Chairman of the Rugby Society.
The biggest influences on Matt’s career to date have been his parents John and Hilde, who have always supported and helped him from a young age, plus he has experienced Rugby League at a high level, playing for Hemel Stags and St. Albans Centurions, through age grade and some men’s rugby. He also played in a London Origin, which was the pathway for the London Broncos who offered him a contract at 17. If taken, it might well have led him to a slightly different environment than experienced now, although he still participates in Rugby League as a referee who has officiated on weekends during the summer.
As for general hobbies and interests, Matt enjoys playing golf, going to the gym, Formula 1 and racing in general, and video games!
