After making one appearance for the Cornish Pirates on loan from Exeter Chiefs near the end of the 2023/24 campaign, Hallam is dual registered from them with the club for this season.
A Devon-born lock forward, who can also play in the backrow, Hallam had joined up with the Chiefs in October 2023, following the news that his then club, Jersey Reds, had ceased trading.
The influence of rugby on Hallam’s life was first showcased when his grandfather gave him a rugby ball on the day he was born, whilst his first rugby experiences were at Torrington RFC where, with his younger brothers and dad, he in his own words “Threw a ball about on Sunday mornings.”
Educated at West Buckland School, Manchester Metropolitan University (BSc Product Design), and the University of Bath (MSc Architectural Engineering), the most pivotal influence on Hallam was when he played for Taunton seconds. Spotted there by a former London Irish coach, Jonathon Fisher, after being invited to pre-season with the exiles club he decided to quit his job as an architectural engineer and pursue rugby full time. As for other teams played for, they include such as Sedgley Park and Plymouth Albion.
Sport is very much in the family. Brother Tommy has played for Newport in the Welsh Premiership and brother Jack has featured for Bishops Stortford alongside Hallam’s brother-in-law. Sister Poppy is also an excellent show jumper and cross-country rider.
In younger years, Hallam represented the South-West at shot put and javelin, plus he has played rugby league. As for the present, when not walking his dogs he enjoys DIY projects, such as restoring cast iron wood burners and woodworking.
