The Cornish Pirates confirmed at the end of May 2024 that Dan had signed a contract for the 2024/25 season.
First playing rugby at under 7s level for Llandovery, Dan also later played for Brecon and for the Ospreys under 18s team, and then in senior rugby for Aberavon, London Welsh, Blackheath, Rosslyn Park, and Ealing Trailfinders, from where he joined the Cornish Pirates.
He was educated at a school called Ystalyfera, in the Swansea Valley, before undertaking an undergraduate’s history degree and post graduate degree in intelligence and security studies at Brunel University in London.
Dan’s parents have been huge influences throughout his life, and especially in relation to rugby. From a young age they have driven him hundreds of miles to watch and play rugby, and to enable him to take the opportunities that have arisen. His grandfather was also a huge influence, giving him sound advice by telling him to just ‘go for it’ in rugby – but to make sure he enjoyed every minute.
Away from rugby, when younger Dan competed at East Wales level in athletics (hurdles and 100 metres), whilst growing up and working on a farm in Wales he always enjoyed just being outside.
Walking and exploring either the countryside or cities have been hobbies, as have a developing love of going to the theatre and watching shows around the West End in London. Oh, and new hobby, which follows his last New Year’s resolution, is reading, which he has found really enjoyable.
