It was confirmed ahead of the 2021/22 season that full-back/fly-half Carwyn was heading to Cornwall, having signed a one-year contract with the Cornish Pirates. A former Wales under 18s and 20s player, he arrived from Welsh Regional side Dragons Rugby.
Educated at Newport High School and Clifton College (Bristol), Carwyn was a one-time member of the Gloucester Academy. He had also previously played in the Welsh Premiership for Cross Keys, Bargoed, and Ebbw Vale, and, when at Gloucester Academy, for Gloucester Rugby and National Two team Cinderford. As for the Dragons, he made his debut in a European Challenge Cup tie away to Castres in January 2020.
Influences in Carwyn’s career include his teacher at Clifton College, former Bristol captain Matt Salter, who always, in Carwyn’s own words “tried helping me on the best I can be.”
