Kent-born Billy, who became a Cornish Pirates squad member in November 2023, started out playing tag rugby at the age of four for his local rugby club Medway. Educated later at the Simon Langton Grammar School in Canterbury, he also played representative rugby for London and South-East under 16s, and for Saracens Academy up to under 18s level.

Spending six months in South Africa, where he attended the Stellenbosch Academy of Sports run by former Saracens player Ernst Joubert, proved an enjoyable experience, and as a Canterbury representative Billy also featured for Kent in their 2022/23 County Championship winning campaign.

Ahead of the 2023/24 season an opportunity arose to join Jersey Reds. Indeed, he was expecting to play against the Cornish Pirates in a scheduled Premiership Rugby Cup game at the Mennaye Field in September, only for that chance to be thwarted by the Jersey club’s sudden demise.

A big influence on Billy’s career to date has been Matt Corker, the former Wasps and London Welsh lock forward, who has been the head coach at Canterbury and is described as a great guy and mentor.

As for other sports, Billy has competed in both weightlifting and judo competitions, whilst his main interest outside of rugby is mountain biking.
