Players & Staff at The Cornish Pirates...
The Cornish Pirates announced at the end of May, 2017, that Aussie Angus had signed a one year contract with the club.
With such a Christian name, however, it is perhaps not surprising to hear that he was actually born in Inverness, Scotland, and nowadays holds British and Australian passports.
A scrum-half/fly-half, Angus spent his early years in Botswana and South Africa, and first played rugby for the Pirates Club in Johannesburg. However, it was when living in Australia that he started to make his mark in the rugby world. Indeed, he made the Western Force ‘A’ squad in 2014, played for Manawatu under 19s and Academy, and for two years also represented Western Australia under 20s and Australian under 20s Barbarians.
In 2016 he was given the opportunity to become part of the Future Force and train with the Western Force senior professional squad on a full time basis. He was also a train on member of Perth Spirit in the National Rugby Championship, besides being part of the Western Force ‘10s’ side that was victorious at the World Club competition held in Mauritius.
‘Gus’, as he is often referred to, first came to Cornwall in 2016. Although not registered, he actually trained with the Cornish Pirates and played for Redruth where as a hard-working and gifted player he continued his rugby education.
