For the Cornish Pirates it’s a return to Greene King IPA Championship action this coming weekend, with a game on Saturday away to Rotherham Titans (ko 2pm).

After 13 rounds played in this season’s campaign, the Titans have yet to taste victory, however the seventh-placed Pirates will be take nothing for granted on their visit to Clifton Lane. Yes, their opponents are propping up the league, but they have started 2018 clearly in good form, recording two wins in British & Irish Cup games played. Plus, it’ll be remembered, that when the teams met at the Mennaye Field back in September the high-scoring match proved a closely-fought affair, with the Pirates ultimately pleased, following three defeats suffered in their opening games, to secure a 62-47 result.

Lock Chris Morgan will skipper the Pirates for their trip ‘Up North’, the side missing a number of their dual-registered players. Nico Coronel is named on the wing and a fit again John Stevens is selected at open-side flanker. Listed among the replacements, Paul Andrew, now fully recovered from injury, will be keen to make his first appearance of the season.

Ready to travel to the town of his birth, Cornish Pirates coach Alan Paver has commented:

Rotherham Titans have been big players in our league for a long time and seeing them at the foot of the table I feel for them massively. Having said that, however, we are mindful that they have won their last two games, and have some good players including a couple of useful additions from Sale.

Any man who puts that shirt on demands respect, so the one thing we have talked about this week is the mental aspect. It also always a tough time of the year with pitch conditions and bruised bodies, so it is important to keep the squad motivated, and to travel and match their passion. We know the Titans are fighting for their lives and careers and that they will be a dangerous animal.
