Pirates Expect a Tough Examination at Nottingham

Next up for the Cornish Pirates is a Round 2 league game in the RFU Championship away to Nottingham this Sunday (ko 3pm).

The ‘Archers’, who finished tenth in the league last season, had a resounding 31-10 points win away to London Scottish last Saturday, so will no doubt be buoyed this weekend on the back of such an impressive result.

Following their 21-14 opening league match win at home to Richmond last Friday, the Pirates have made just the one change in their starting XV, with Cory Teague named to partner Will Britton in the second row.

He takes the place of James Fender who is this week selected on a bench that also includes hooker Max Norey and prop Matt Johnson. Should the duo get a call, then for each it would be their first appearance for the Cornish Pirates in Championship match.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s contest, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Alan Paver has commented:

“As we all know, any game away in the Championship is tough, and this weekend will be no different.

“We expect to face a team including several dual registered and Championship hardened players who, following their result at London Scottish last week, will be very much up for it.

“However, having said that, from a Pirates perspective on the back of a good training week if we can put our best foot forward then the hope will be to get on the right side of the score.”
