Pirates Expect a Cracking Encounter at Nottingham

For their Round 3 match in this season’s Championship Cup the Cornish Pirates are on their travels again this week, when on Friday they play Nottingham Rugby away (ko 7.45pm).

The ‘Green & Whites’, who won their Cup opener 83-0 at home versus Yorkshire Carnegie and then lost 22-17 away to London Scottish last weekend, will inevitably provide a tough challenge at ‘The Bay’ ground in West Bridgford.

The Cornish Pirates have again made several changes, including Fa’atiga Lemalu stepping back from the second row to take the blind-side flanker berth. On the bench back-rower James McRae, who is dual-registered with Exeter Chiefs, will be looking to add to the 15 appearance he made for the Pirates last season

Speaking ahead of the game, Cornish Pirates’ joint coach Alan Paver has commented:

We produced a compelling performance to beat Yorkshire Carnegie last weekend, and despite making a few changes to this week – to give everyone a fair crack of the whip – we have again selected a very strong side.

Travelling on Thursday for a Friday evening match provides a different type of challenge, although we are used to being flexible with short weeks and long weeks.

Our matches against Nottingham have been exciting, and with playing under lights always creating a different atmosphere we are just really keen to get up there for what is expected to be a really competitive, and cracking game of rugby, between two evenly matched sides.
