Next up for the Cornish Pirates is a Round 4 match in the Greene King IPA Championship away to Nottingham Rugby on Friday (ko 7.45pm).
This weekend’s encounter will be a second meeting of the season playing under Friday night floodlights at Nottingham’s ‘The Bay’ ground in West Bridgford, remembering that in the Championship Cup the Pirates emerged comfortable 42-7 winners at the beginning of October.
Speedy winger Alex O’Meara notched up an impressive four tries for the Pirates in that Cup match fixture, however in the league a much tougher contest is expected, both sides having won two and lost one in their opening games in the competition.
Selected in the Cornish Pirates starting XV to make their first Greene King IPA Championship appearances of the season are centre Rory Parata and scrum-half Jean-Baptist Bruzulier, whilst overall the side shows several changes from the team that faced Newcastle Falcons on Sunday, including quick returns from injury for hooker Tom Cowan-Dickie and flanker Will Wilson.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s game, joint Coach Alan Paver has said:
We put in a fine performance in the Cup but will approach this as a stand-alone game and won’t be looking at it as to what happened last time.
Playing evening matches present different challenges, especially for the lads fielding the high ball in the back field. However, night games also tend to give a different atmosphere, which many like because it adds to the spectacle.
