Ealing Trailfinders

Away

Cornish Pirates

Following their 34-10 defeat away to Hartpury last week, things don’t get any easier for the sixth-placed Cornish Pirates this weekend, as on Saturday they will play clear league leaders Ealing Trailfinders away in Round 12 of the Championship (ko 3pm).

For certain reasons the travelling Pirates have made a raft of changes for the game. These include their trio of on loan squad members from the Trailfinders, namely backrower Tomiwa Agbongbon, lock Matt Cannon, and centre Harry Yates, being unavailable to play against their parent club.

Changes for the Pirates in the backs sees Iwan Price-Thomas named at full-back, with Will Trewin moving to the wing, whilst Joe Elderkin will partner Charlie McCaig in the centre and Iwan Jenkins will make his first league start of the season at fly-half.

In the forwards, tight-head prop Alfie Petch has returned on loan from Gloucester, for whom he featured in their Challenge Cup encounter in Bayonne last weekend, and Alfie Bell, a debutant off the bench last week, will partner Fintan Coleman in the second row. Sol Moody is selected at hooker, with Harry Hocking moving to the back row, and ready for debut action as a replacement will be Matt Pritchard, a recent signing from Redruth.

Commenting ahead of this weekend’s game, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Alan Paver said:

“As per last weekend, when I think I’ve never known such personnel changes in such a small space of time, we know it will be tough again this Saturday.

“We fully recognise that the journey our present group of players are on is obviously at a different level to where Ealing are at, but again we will prepare to the best of our ability and will be putting out what we feel is the strongest selection available.

“Our aim and mindset will be to go into the game looking to get something out of it and, whether we will or won’t, the proof will be in the pudding. The bottom line also is that we be going up there and we will give it our best effort.”

The full Cornish Pirates selection for Saturday is as follows:
