For a Round 5 match in the Championship Cup, the Cornish Pirates will welcome Yorkshire Carnegie to the Mennaye Field this Sunday (ko 2.30pm).
Looking to put the disappointment of last week’s 29-20 home defeat against Nottingham behind them, the Pirates starting XV again shows several changes. Maliq Holden moves from wing to full-back, with Alex O’Meara and Matt Evans the named wing pairing, Callum Patterson will partner Robin Wedlake in the centre and Rhodri Davies is selected at scrum-half. In the pack there is just the one change, the loose-head prop berth to be taken by Will Norton.
On the bench, back-row man Paddy Ryan, a new arrival this week who has previously played for Northampton Saints, will be keen for a chance of match action.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Cornish Pirates’ coach Alan Paver said:
It was disappointing last weekend when despite making changes we had a strong side out. We were well prepared, but it wasn’t our finest day, especially at home, so we’ll be looking for an emotional reaction this weekend against Yorkshire Carnegie. They are trying to find their feet still, and although we can’t take anything for granted it is a chance for us to redeem ourselves by getting back to winning ways and to then look forward to the challenge of London Scottish.
