Cornish Pirates Are Named for Warm-Up Friendly Versus Jersey Reds

Almost exactly a year since the Cornish Pirates last played a match at the Mennaye Field – winning 21-15 against Nottingham on the 1st March 2020 – a warm-up friendly fixture will take place at home on Saturday against Jersey Reds (ko 2pm).

Named in the Cornish Pirates starting XV is one new face in former Wales under 20s fly-half Luke Scully who, as announced on Thursday, has arrived on loan from Cardiff Blues.

(Four players not just available at present are AJ Cant, Craig Mitchell, Tom Cowan-Dickie, and Will Cargill).

Pleased that such a fixture had been confirmed, Cornish Pirates’ joint Head Coach Gavin Cattle commented:

With it difficult in the current circumstances to get a warm-up match, having worked closely with Harvey (Harvey Biljon, Jersey Reds’ Director of Rugby) during the past couple of weeks we are grateful to them that we have managed to slot in this game at the last minute.

It is pleasing, as both teams are desperate to get some meaningful action under their belts. There is only so much you can do against each other so we’re just looking forward to getting that competitive fixture and to get rugby up and running.
