Having recorded two fine ‘Champ’ wins on the trot, the Cornish Pirates will be keen to extend their run to three when they welcome ‘The Archers’ from Nottingham to Cornwall on Saturday.
For this eighth versus seventh Round 18 fixture in the league, following damage inflicted last month by ‘Storm Goretti’ the Pirates are also pleased to announce that after playing their last two home games at Camborne, this Saturday’s fixture will see a return to rugby action at the Mennaye Field, Penzance, albeit for the present with certain quite workable restrictions.
For further information, please link to the club’s website at www.cornish-pirates.com, and note too that the kick-off will be at the earlier time of 12 noon. This will enable supporters to stay on afterwards and watch on screens the England versus Ireland ‘Six Nations’ fixture, which kicks off at 2.10pm.
Pirates’ team news for Saturday shows just two changes in their starting XV from last weekend. Matty Ward starts on the left wing and at loose-head prop James French is selected, with Ben Woodmansey making a first Champ Rugby start at tight head. As for the bench, promising young winger Finn Love is named. On loan from Camborne, and this month having made his 1st team debut for the ‘Cherry & Whites’, he has been a member of the Truro College academy system here in Cornwall and the Exeter Chiefs Academy.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s midday contest, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Alan Paver has commented:
“The boys impressed with a very good performance away to Caldy last weekend, as they had against London Scottish at Camborne the week before.
“As for this Saturday, both ourselves and Nottingham are well matched, but there is an opportunity to push past them if all aspects of our game are functioning well.
“Yes, we must be respectful, but our present form is encouraging and we are at home, though if we don’t get the result sought, it will be a case of we only have ourselves to blame.”
