Following their disappointing 44-12 loss away to Doncaster Knights last Saturday, the Cornish Pirates will be looking for a bounce back win when in Round 16 of the ‘Champ’ they will welcome London Scottish to Cornwall this weekend.

Supporters should firstly be aware that for a second home match on the trot, because of certain problems arising from damage inflicted last month by ‘Storm Goretti’ at the Mennaye Field, Penzance, this week’s fixture will again be played at Camborne RFC. Secondly, it is also important to note that the game will be played on Sunday, with a 2pm kick-off.

The Pirates have made several changes for this weekend’s ninth versus thirteenth clash, including naming Angus Mawson at full back. A young Australian, he has previously made one appearance for the club as a replacement, besides experiencing valuable game time on loan at Redruth.

Also gifted starts are fly half Louie Sinclair, wing Ben Cambriani, and flanker Luke Ratcliff, whilst for scrum half Dan Hiscocks the match will proudly mark his 50th appearance for the Pirates, which is quite an achievement in less than two seasons.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Cornish Pirates’ joint head coach Gavin Cattle has said:

“It was a frustrating performance at Doncaster last Saturday, so it is important that we bounce back this week. To their credit they were good and more elevated than us and we need to learn from the experience.

“Our aim on Sunday is to endeavour to focus on the right areas to show the supporters what we are about, and that we can get better. London Scottish can be a dangerous team, so it is therefore also important for us to establish our game upon them.

“In league terms we are not that many points adrift, and our eyes are very much still on the prize, therefore our hope will be to keep ticking along to pick up the wins needed. Our ambition certainly hasn’t changed, and if we can deliver our hopeful aim to dominate in certain areas then that will very much help.”

The Cornish Pirates full selection for Sunday is as follows:

Cornish Pirates:   15 Angus Mawson 14 Arthur Relton 13 Chester Ribbons 12 Joe Elderkin 11 Ben Cambriani 10 Louie Sinclair 9 Dan Hiscocks; 1 Alessandro Heaney 2 Sol Moody 3 Alfie Petch 4 Milo Hallam 5 Josh King 6 Alex Everett (captain) 7 Luke Ratcliff 8 Tomi Agbongbon.
