Next up for the Cornish Pirates is an away game this coming Saturday versus Caldy, kick-off 2pm.

Despite the Wirral-based side being presently at the foot of the Championship league table, a likely closely fought encounter is expected at their Paton Field ground against the now eighth placed Cornish Pirates.

Changes in the Cornish Pirates starting line-up from the one that faced Chinnor at home last weekend are all in the forwards. Billy Young and Harry Hocking are named at prop and hooker respectively, and Matt Cannon will partner Charlie Rice in the second row. For full-back Will Trewin, the game will proudly mark his 50th appearance for the club.

A familiar figure on the bench is that of second row/back row player Lewis Pearson. He is on a short-term loan from Exeter Chiefs and has in the past made 11 appearances for the Cornish Pirates when dual registered from the Devon club. Also named among the replacements is Chiefs’ centre Chester Ribbons who, dual-registered with the Pirates, will be looking forward to making his first appearance for the club.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s encounter, Cornish Pirates’ coach Joe Walsh has commented:

“We hung in there to the end, and there were pleasing elements in our game. It was great to achieve the sought-after win, but we must step up still further this week. Also, for the long journey, we must get our preparation correct and achieve the right mindset ahead of the game.

Again, Caldy will bring loads of physicality, a lot of size, and will want to impose themselves in the set piece, so we need to be prepared for that and get our detail right in all other areas.”
