Following my statement last week on players’ contracts I am very pleased to let everyone associated with our club know that ALL contracted players for next season have stepped up to the plate and agreed the salary reduction I needed to make the numbers work for me.
Furthermore, ALL back of house management staff and the coaching team, physios et al have also agreed to take the same 15% reduction in income for this coming season.
I am personally blown away by this reaction of the 43 or so people involved at the Cornish Pirates especially as people have fixed monthly outgoings such as mortgages to pay.
This means we can move forward and continue to improve on the pitch with a full-time professional squad.
The squad announcements will be rolled out from the 11th May and I feel sure every Pirates supporter will be well pleased with the players contracted for next season.
On the stadium, we have also agreed with the head honchos at the Council that we will move forward with alacrity on the transfer of the land immediately we can get the legals signed off. We have a deadline date of 15th May in the diary so no pressure there then!
So, some good news all round which I thought I should share with all of our supporters.
The daily gazettes are full of doom and gloom especially for rugby fans, so I am very pleased to let it be known to all and sundry the Cornish Pirates are in good health and looking forward to the forthcoming season.
It would be remiss of me not to thank all players and staff for their co-operation during this difficult time but special mention must go to our CEO Rebecca Thomas who is an outstanding individual in all aspects of management , and we couldn’t have achieved this result by the deadline of April 27th, without her colossal input.
