It has been with true sadness that news has been received this past week confirming the passing of the Reverend Julyan Drew from Newlyn.
A man of the people, Julyan was a keen supporter of the Pirates for many years, a Cornish Bard and RNLI Penlee Lifeboat Chaplain. As recently publicised locally, he was also a recipient of the very first Grenfell Community Hero Award, presented to him in his hospice bed.
In the past Julyan served as Chaplain to the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service, the Town Council and been chairman of numerous local bodies, including as chair of the YMCA, The Newlyn Fish Industry Forum and the 3 Villages Project.
Much loved and respected, Julyan was an example to all. He strived to provide help and comfort where required and often seen with an infectious smile he enjoyed being a community man. Condolences are expressed to his wife Liz and family.
Julyan’s funeral will take place at Paul Parish Church on Monday 5th August, commencing 2.30pm, followed afterwards by a gathering at the Pirates ‘Westholme’ clubhouse.
Donations can be made in lieu of flowers in aid of The Ocean Pride Trust, Penlee Lifeboat Crew Fund, and the Firefighters Charity to Burroughs and Kearey Funeral Directors, Rear of Barwis Terrace, Penzance TR18 2AW.
