Becki is Appointed CEO

The board of Cornish Pirates is delighted to announce the appointment of Rebecca Thomas as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

With reference to this important appointment, the Chairman of the Cornish Pirates, Paul Durkin, commented:

Becki has excelled as our Finance Director and a board member for some time.

The overall management of Cornish Pirates has become much more complex with the work required to manage not just the rugby club but also with the requirements of building the Stadium for Cornwall and more recently with managing Truro City Football Club. We recognised that we required a CEO on the ground to oversee all the various aspects of Cornish Pirates.

With her detailed knowledge of the operations in each of the key areas and her longstanding experience of the finances, Becki was the obvious candidate for the role. She brings a deep understanding of the systems and people and a passion for the club.

Her appointment will facilitate the rest of the management team to concentrate on the important roles each of them already has. She will continue as Finance Director and, to help her with her new responsibilities, we will appoint a financial accountant to support the on-going financial duties.

Paul added:

We are delighted that Becki has accepted this new role and hope that you will join us in congratulating Becki and wishing her well.

Speaking about her appointment, Becki said:

I am delighted to have been asked to step up and take on the role of CEO alongside being Finance Director. I first joined the Cornish Pirates 10 years ago and through that time have seen many highs, and the occasional low as expected in professional sport, but we have always been a strong team both on and off the pitch and that is what makes us a really special club. I have worked closely with Dicky Evans over the last decade and his passion and commitment is second to none.

There is never a dull moment in the world of rugby and having been involved in most aspects of the business over the years I have learnt a lot and have a strong understanding of both the operational side and financial side….. I’ve even enjoyed many a lesson on scrummaging and mauling from the Scrum King himself – Mr Paver! Our staff are outstanding, and I am very grateful for the support that they and the Board have given me as I take on this new role.
